This will be the first part of a two-part post.

A while ago, I talked to Karyn from AniA Bridal in Portland, OR about possibly shooting one of their clients to expand my portfolio with OR brides. We have verbally agreed that when the opportunity presents itself, we will collaborate. A few weeks ago, Karyn got back to me with a bride who is totally up for a shoot. The aforementioned bride, Tara, also asked if her friend could also come along for the shoot, to which I agreed.

So here is Deven. She got married on December 11, 2008 (also my birthday) and is a hairstylist. If you are looking for a hairstylist, I highly recommend her. Let me know if you need her information.

I will be posting Tara’s photos in the next few days. Be on the lookout for it. Update: Tara’s photos have been posted.

I grew up with a photography dad and one thing that I found so intriguing was his “big camera”, his Hasselblad. What fascinated (and still fascinates) me is how much detail the camera can capture. Looking down the viewfinder, it is almost as if you’re looking at things in 3D.

Anyways, one day, I casually mentioned to my dad that if he doesn’t use his Hasselblad as much anymore, that he should just let me have it. To my surprise, he gave me the “big camera” along with the 120 film back and the polaroid back. The purpose of the polaroid back, he once told me, was to test your shot. Unlike digital camera, where you can chimp after each shot, you need something else and that something else is polaroid film. Meter your exposure, adjust your focus, and take a shot with the polaroid back. 60-90 seconds later, you get to see if everything is the way you want it. If not, make more adjustments. If it’s perfect, switch to the 120 film back and shoot.

After storing the Hasselblad in my camera drawer for a long time, I decided to take it out and start shooting more stuff with the polaroid back to see if I’ll like it. See the results for yourself.
